GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Ads supplied via Quickcut are preferred. Otherwise you can email your pdf file, with trim marks and bleed.
  • Please don’t add registration/crop marks to your PDF when uploading to Quickcut. They add them for you.
  • 1/4 page photos supplied as tiff or jpeg, 300 dpi, CMYK.
  • Word, tiff, jpeg, Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, etc are not accepted.
  • CMYK Colour Space (not RGB, Pantone, etc).
  • Please supply double page spread ads as two single PDFs.
  • Keep type and logos within 12mm of the trim lines.
  • Hi-Resolution 300dpi @ 100% size.
  • Must be centered on page.
  • Document size is to be set to trim size of magazine.
  • Allow for 5mm bleed all round and work within a minimum of 12mm type area in from trim.
  • Maximum ink weight density total is 310%.
  • Artwork that does not conform to the above specifications may be rejected or a fee may be charged for alterations.

Inside Front Cover Double Page Section: We require these sections to be designed and supplied to the above ‘Double page Cover Section’ size due to the 5mm that is lost in the spine when the magazine is bound.

ICC Profile and Total Ink Weights: We have a maximum ink weight of 310% for our publication. If your pdf has ink weights over 310% you will need to resupply, as our printers don’t accept this.

Quickcut: Quickcut is our preferred method for receiving your ad material and has become the industry standard for sending and receiving artwork. The Quickcut service is available to you via www.quicksend.net.au (Quickcut fees apply).

Submitting photography

A quick guide for photographers submitting images to the magazine.

Digital vs film: Digital images are the preferred format for submitting images. Please consider the following aspects of the images before submitting, to ensure that time is not wasted if an image is rejected.

Resolution: The resolution required for print is 300ppi at final size. If you are unsure of the final size required, please check with the editorial team.

Size: The final size of the image may not be known at the time of submission, as editorial and advertisements may not yet have been designed. Please check with the editorial team before making any assumptions about the size required. Full page images should be at least 210 x 275mm with 5mm bleed around. Allow for the possibility that images may be cropped by the graphic designer – larger is better!

Quality: Image quality is a subjective factor and is dependent on a wide range of external factors, including lighting conditions, camera settings and post-production. Blue Mountains Love is a high quality magazine, printed on coated paper, allowing the best reproduction possible. Please verify that the image(s) supplied do not suffer from artefacts created by JPEG compression, over-sharpening, or unprofessional retouching.

Compression: Un-compressed images are preferred. If compression is used, images should be saved using lossless compression formats, such as ZIP. JPEG compression is not the most suitable, as artefacts can be introduced, especially if the original image is re-saved many times or needs to be enlarged. Being a high-quality magazine, Blue Mountains Love has full pre-press and photo-editing capabilities. Consequently, Camera Raw files are also acceptable.

File format: JPEG files are discouraged, for reasons mentioned above. Preferred file formats include TIFF, PSD, RAW.

Dynamic range: Because the magazine printing process is as high-quality as possible, images should make full use of the entire dynamic range achievable by the camera. Shadow and highlight detail should be maximised.

CMYK or RGB: Blue Mountains Love magazine is printed using CMYK inks. Images in either RGB or CMYK formats are acceptable. However, images supplied in CMYK format must have been converted using the appropriate colour profile – ISO Coated v2 (ECI).

Embedded profiles: All embedded profiles are removed before printing. Ensure that images supplied have been pre-processed using only the preferred colour profiles – Adobe RGB (1998) or ISO Coated v2 (ECI).

Retouch or reshoot? Extensive photo-editing should be avoided, unless done by a professional retouching artist. Obvious cloning, banding, artefacts resulting from over-enlargement, and excessive shadow and highlight defects will detract from the overall quality of the magazine. If in doubt, bracket the shots extensively during the original photo-shoot and supply only the best image(s).Blue Mountains Love magazine does  offer a comprehensive professional retouching service – but remember that not all miracles are possible and that there is likely to be a cost involved.

File names and metadata: Ensure the file name is short, but descriptive. Do not use the default filename from the camera. Include appropriate metadata, especially if the images are to be protected by copyright.
