What started as friendship (and Maddi driving Linton home after their shifts together) developed into romance, then after 5 years together Linton popped the question!
“He makes me feel like we can do anything and go anywhere as long as it’s together. I really did marry my best friend.”
Maddison Evans and Linton Ross met in 2014 when they worked together at Fishes restaurant.
“It’s also where my sister-in-law and her now husband met as well. I think we are the third Fishes wedding in the 13 years it’s been operating.”, says Maddi.
What started as friendship (and Maddi driving Linton home after their shifts together) developed into romance.
“He was funny and sweet, but I think in the early days I scared him off because I partied too hard and he’s such a quiet soul. We are the yin to each other’s yang.”
After 5 years together Linton popped the question.
“He was so red and nervous but got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.”
While the pandemic did not affect the planning for their intended wedding date, there were still some hurdles to overcome.Â
Maddi and Linton live in Queensland so planning an interstate wedding in NSW’s beautiful Blue Mountains while borders were closed was stressful and challenging.
Closures prevented many milestones events from happening, such as visiting their venue for the first time, enjoying a menu tasting and Maddi being able to go wedding dress shopping with her mum.
“It was 14 months after booking our venue before I even got to see it with my own eyes.”
“It was important for us to have something which reflected our love for each other and our humour rather than tradition.”
When deciding on a venue for their big day, Maddi had a clear vision of what she didn’t want.
“I didn’t like the idea of a sandy beach wedding and my husband and I HATE being hot, which is ironic as we live in the desert. I knew I wanted something cool, all in one place, with a rustic feel and a clear marquee perhaps; it was like Dryridge Estate was thought up out of my dreams.”
“Having grown up in the area, coming home to the Blue Mountains for our wedding made sense.”
“I LOVED that we could choose our own type of catering, have our dogs with us and get ready and sleep onsite. This helped me decide how I wanted my wedding to look. After that decision was made, everything else fell into place.”
After a week of rain, their wedding date of 14 May 2022 was pure sunshine.
“On the day, we were so incredibly blessed. I told everyone to be prepared for freezing temperatures and it was 23 degrees! And even with 120 guests, only 2 were unable to attend due to Covid-19. I couldn’t have asked for a better result on the day!”
Bringing their family and friends together was extra special for Maddi & Linton with both sets of their divorced parents uniting for the first time.
“Seeing everyone together in one room and so happy is a feeling we can’t describe.”
